Woah! Its been a while since I’ve posted in my journal, oops! After my last journal I kind of went of a hiatus from Deviantart due to work commitments and life events. My pc has also been having problems which has made it quite difficult to keep online. Currently it is being fixed and I hope to catch up with my correspondence on here. I’m back now and I’m going to try and be here more regularly. Sorry for the long post. Have a couple of things to catch up on.
First up, I have been invited to be a Cosplay Judge at Play Expo Blackpool. I’ll be there along with Naurarwen :devnaurarwen
: and Van Helen Cosplay. Thank you to Replay events, Showmasters Events and Zonic the cosplayer organiser for the invite. I’m really looking forward to it. You can read more about it here on my Facebook Play Expo Blackpool Details on my Facebook
. Its on this coming weekend and I hope to see you there if you are going.
There are a couple of things that I haven’t had chance to report so I’m going to quickly do them now.
In October of 2013 I attended two events. One as an attendee, the other as a Cosplay Guest. The first being Winter London Film and Comic Con (WLFCC). I went with Sam :devnaurarwen
: and her partner Paul. I wore my Lucius Malfoy on the Saturday complete with new snake cane prop. My old one had sadly reached a point where she could no longer do events. She has lost a tooth and was becoming really fragile. I decided to retire her and finally buy one of the Official Replica prop ones. I have kept my old one as she was my first major prop build from scratch. Anyway, back to the event. I met up with loads of friends including a couple I hadn’t seen in a couple of years. It was really nice to catch up with Laura :devSands-Cosplay
: and Eileen :devEileenSkopnik
: as well as many others. On the Sunday Sam and I wore our Hansel and Gretel from the Hansel & Gretel Witch Hunters film. This was the second time wearing them and this time I had finally finished the gun prop and coat. We had a blast being the Witch Hunters. Had quite a few photos taken and appeared in a Sneaky Zebra video. I got to meet several Lord of Rings cast as well as my first Hobbit cast. All the actors were lovely and I now have more autographs added to my growing extensive collection. All in all, WinterLFCC was a fantastic event. I hope to attend the one this year.
My second event in October was Play Expo. I was invited very last minute to appear as a Cosplay Guest. Along with Sam and Freddie :devFrederica-La-Noir
: we judged and gave talks on the Sunday of the event. The Saturday held the UK WCS (World Cosplay) selectors for 2014. Emi :devEmi-zone: and Felixe :devfelixize
: won the selectors. Many congratulations to them. It was a lovely relaxing event with some great costumes.
After October I had finished my events for the year. Looking back it has been a mixed bag in terms of Cosplay. I only managed to complete two costumes for myself (I did a lot more in commissions) but did get to feature in Neo Magazine and appear as a Cosplay Guest. I’m hoping to finish more of my own costumes this year. This year my costumes will take a very different turn. In the last few years I have mainly focused on anime but this year will have more of a focus on TV and Film. This is due to a limit on events currently in the UK and I’m keen to revisit my first love of films. I have now become a member of a couple of cosplayer groups (more to be announced on that soon). These groups focus on being entertainment and raise money for charity. This is something I enjoy doing and was pretty much how I started in cosplay. I used to do quite a bit of charity work as part of the Doctor Who cosplay community. Its great to go back to that. My choices on costumes for this year will be chosen around these groups as well as my chosen events for this year.
On to this year. A couple of weeks back I attended my first event of the year, Kitacon. It was a fantastic event. I’ll be doing a fuller report on it very soon. Next up for me will be Play Expo Blackpool and then Collectormaina Milton Keynes.
Lastly, I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has faved and commented on my Legolas Low Budget Bow tutorial both on here and on my Tumblr. Really over the moon on how well its been received. I’m so happy that you all have liked it. I am planning on more tutorials in the future with my next one coming very soon.
